A runner has passed away and another has been seriously injured after lightning strike during a Mountain’s race night in north Greeceas reported by the emergency services of that country.
The two runners participated in the Six Peaks Racea test of 36 kilometers of distance that chains the six highest peaks of the Mount Falakrowhich all exceed 2,000 meters, when lightning struck a group of runners at 4 a.m. on Sunday.

The injured runner was airlifted to a hospital in the city of Kavala, where authorities said he is in serious condition. It is the case that the deceased was a resident of the same locality.

Speaking to the Greek media newsit.gra member of the endurance event organizing group explained that “the race started yesterday with good weather conditions and at some point during the night this changed and the weather deteriorated significantly”.
“Apparently they were struck by lightning. We still don’t know exactly how it happened, but we will find out,” the organizer commented on this tragedy.
