In 2017, Suitable Herrenmode opened its digital doors to the German audience. Over the last 6 years, thousands of garments from more than 75 premium brands have been shipped from warehouse in the Netherlands. So it’s high time to take stock. What has changed in terms of men’s fashion in recent years? What are customers’ expectations and which brands have gained popularity? On the occasion of its six-year anniversary, Suitable looks back on a fruitful time in a new, foreign-language market.
Experimenting with clothing styles
Where there used to be a clear division between formal and informal clothing, we are seeing this blurring. The result is clothing styles in which men incorporate athletic or casual clothing into formal outfits in creative and stylish ways. From casual sneakers under a men’s suit to a casual t-shirt under a trendy blazer, expressing your personal style is easier than ever. Brands are cleverly responding to this trend by releasing formal garments in comfortable fabrics such as jersey or knitted cotton.
The return to sophistication
After years of uncertainty and various safety measures, men are returning to the office during the COVID-19 pandemic. Men who have primarily worked from home in their sweatpants are continuing the informal clothing style at their off-site workplace. Above all, it should be comfortable and less stiff. Nevertheless, over the last year we have seen that outfits in business environments can be more elegant again. Men’s suits made from stretch materials offer the same freedom of movement without sacrificing style.
More attention to sustainability
The fashion industry’s impact on the environment has become increasingly visible in the news in recent years. Various clothing brands have also launched a variety of initiatives to produce their clothing and accessories more sustainably. From organically grown cotton to recycled raw materials, customers overcame prejudices and experienced that sustainable clothing and high quality go hand in hand. In addition, more emphasis is placed on wearing natural materials such as cotton and merino wool.
Outfits can be more eccentric
A striking development is that men’s fashion is increasingly drawing inspiration from women’s fashion. For example, it is allowed to incorporate eye-catching colors into outfits. In addition, men are more aware of the additional impact of accessories. Think of a crossbody bag or a weekend bag to give an outfit a more sophisticated look. In addition, trend accessories are increasingly being pursued. Good examples of this are baseball caps and sandals. Where they were previously considered a no-go for fashion-conscious men, these accessories are increasingly being seen by premium brands in a variety of materials and sophisticated designs.
