It only took one turn of the Russian gas tap in two countries to get gas prices back up. As a national politician you stand for less with your mouth full of teeth. The VAT reduction that pushed the average energy bill below EUR 5,000 (!) per year last week has already been negated. The hair is scratched. The classic bag of tricks is used up. Still the easy tricks. These will probably be extended or kept in the coming weeks and months. Furthermore, politicians look fairly defeatist. Rien a faire? It is what it is?
