A record improvement of half a minute! The Finnish sensation is in great shape

Eveliina Määttänen flashed her summer fitness in Joensuu.

A tough result was seen at the Joensuu GP, when Eveliina Määttänen improved his own ton vitosen record by almost half a minute.

Määttänen is known as a tough competitor in the 800 meters. He rarely runs 1500 meters. The old record of 4:40.71 was from 2011. In Joensuu, the digitals stopped at 4:12.08.

The Finnish runner was humble after his record.

– It was a really good start list. I managed to get off to a good start. Actually hit a good wind gap. The noise of the day calmed down a bit, Määttänen said after the run.

In the Joensuu Games, the wind roared really hard during the first two starts, but it was calm during the A start. According to Määttänen, wind conditions affect the results a lot.

– Yes, at worst, especially if you can’t get wind protection from the group. If half of the course is run against a strong headwind, it will eat up your strength.

Although Määttänen set the top time in the 1500 meters, the 27-year-old’s goals are elsewhere.

– The goals are at 800 meters. I would like to try to improve my record. As an individual competition, the World Championships in Budapest. I would like to be involved.

Määttänen’s 1.59.96 at the Paavo Nurmi Games is Finland’s second fastest time in women’s 800 meters of all time. Above is just Sara Lappalainen (own family Kuivisto) with a time of 1:59.41.

– A historically hard performance, when sub-two minutes are broken in Finland, stated Iltalehti’s expert after that run Arto Bryggare.
