The council of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn will allocate another 250,000 euros for next year to tackle the rural roads in the municipality. This money is in addition to the intended budget of 400,000 euros.
According to Eisso Kronenberg of Gemeentebelangen, the maintenance backlog remains enormous. “Reports of dangerous traffic situations regularly come in from the villages. Often caused by freight traffic, agricultural traffic, that takes different routes than the municipality had anticipated,” says Kronenberg.
During the discussion of the Framework Memorandum in June, five parties submitted a motion to this effect, but according to Annemiek de Groot of Leefbaar Borger-Odoorn, this was not given priority. “The council cannot ignore a motion submitted by five parties and supported by sixteen councilors. Our rural roads regularly show shortcomings in the level of maintenance, which is dangerous for road users. That is why we are submitting an amendment to include this motion. “, says De Groot.
