During a nostalgic evening at Museum aan de A you can reminisce about Sint-Martinus. Roué Verveer is also coming to Emmen and there will be music from the popular Netflix series Nashville.
Nostalgic evening about Sint-Martinus
Make your own lanterns, sing songs at the top of your lungs and fill bags with sweets. For many people, these are fond memories of their childhood. Do you have beautiful memories of Sint-Martinus and would you like to share them? Then come visit the cozy Verhalencafé in Museum aan de A on Wednesday evening, November 8. Which Groningen-language Saint Martin songs did you used to sing? How did you make your lantern? And what treats were put in your bag? Did you visit the neighbors or preferably go to the shopping street in one go? Was there a parade in your neighborhood or village or was something else special organized? These are all questions that remind you of your youth. The Story Café will be introduced by historian Sanne Meijer from Museum aan de A. She will briefly tell something about the history of the Sunter-Meerten festival in the city and province of Groningen. Then discussion leader Hein Bekenkamp, Sint Martinus expert from the Royal Association for Popular Entertainment, takes the floor. He goes in search of beautiful memories of Saint Martin. Everything is welcome: whether it is a short anecdote, a funny song or a legendary story.
You are also very welcome if you just want to listen. Register via [email protected].

Toonkunstkoor Emmen | Advertisement
Toonkunstkoor Emmen performs Die Jahreszeiten by Joseph Haydn. This cheerful oratorio expresses country life through the seasons. The play was first performed in 1801 in Vienna and was a great success. The elderly farmer Simon, his daughter Hanne and her lover Lucas tell the story of country life. A range of topics are covered: the rising sun, ploughing, sowing, harvesting, resting in the evening sun. Of course, love and wine are also discussed.
On winter evenings they spin and the boys join the girls on suitors’ feet. The weather is sung about when it comes to thunder and lightning and there is also a hunting scene with horns blowing. This performance with three soloists and a choir is accompanied by a fine orchestra of almost 30 professional musicians. The conductor is Jacco Camphens. See toonkunstkoorem.nl.
