A new step in the Olympic Committee’s harassment investigation

The parties are still invited to mediate the matter.

One of the suspected cases of harassment linked to the Finnish Olympic Committee is still being processed.

In the investigation, there was an incident where, according to a woman who was at the preparation camp for the Tokyo Olympics, a male employee of the Olympic Committee had told her that “you now have a new job here at the camp, that you can come and wash my seats in my room every night, because I don’t trust these men as cleaners”.

CEO of the Olympic Committee Taina Susiluoto said that the parties to the case will still be invited to the same table.

– We received a statement from the equality commissioner and a report on the matter from the Finnish Sports Ethics Center. Based on them, we have reviewed the situation. The parties involved have all the necessary material at their disposal, and our conclusion is that I invite the parties to mediate the matter one more time, Susiluoto said.

According to Susiluoto, the Olympic Committee has also updated its instruction package, which is given to the members of the Olympic Committee’s team traveling to the prestigious competitions. In addition, people are trained to know how to deal with harassment situations better than before.

– Both in the case of Tokyo and in the previous ones, there is a lot of discussion related to language use. We have paid attention to the matter. In the leadership group of the Olympic Committee, we have discussed and committed ourselves to speaking in a smart and modern way.

– We hope that the staff and those going on race trips will commit to it in the same respectful way. The time for pointless, tasteless jokes is over.
