Despite the sporting heights in the Bundesliga, there is rumbling behind the scenes at VfB Stuttgart. The reason: Investor Porsche is calling for changes in the club’s management team.
More precisely, it is about the not undisputed club president Claus Vogt, who is also chairman of the supervisory board at VfB – a double occupation that Porsche would like to abolish.
“After intensive discussions with Claus Vogt and the members of the Supervisory Board, Porsche would like – as Claus Vogt promised – a new beginning on the Supervisory Board with a new Chairman of the Supervisory Board, who should ideally come from the group of Supervisory Board members appointed by the eV. Porsche is not seeking to take over the Chairmanship of the Supervisory Board “, a spokesman for the German car manufacturer told several media outlets.
Porsche’s entry into VfB Stuttgart was finalized at the end of January. In a first step, the company took over 5.49 percent of the shares. A further 5.20 percent is to follow in June. In the process, Porsche also secured two seats on the club’s supervisory board. According to reports, a total of just over 40 million euros will go to VfB.
VfB Stuttgart: Repeated criticism of President Claus Vogt
As “Sky” reports, Vogt had not ruled out any scenario before finalizing the deal in order not to endanger the collaboration with Porsche. However, he should not be prepared to resign from his position as chairman of the supervisory board without first asking the VfB members about the issue.
The fact that the club president is also chairman of the supervisory board was stipulated when the professional department was spun off in 2017 in order to guarantee the members their co-determination rights in the company.
Vogt, who has been in office since 2019, is not without controversy at VfB Stuttgart. There are always internal quarrels surrounding the 54-year-old and criticism of his work.
