The Füchse Berlin handball players got off to a successful start in the European League. The defending champion narrowly won his opening game in Group G against the French representative Chambery Savoie Mont Blanc on Tuesday evening with 24:22 (13:10).

The best Berlin thrower in front of 4,233 spectators in the Max Schmeling Hall was Tim Freihöfer with five goals.

In addition to the injured trio Paul Drux, Fabian Wiede and Max Darj, coach Jaron Siewert also had to do without playmaker Nils Lichtlein (cold). In addition, regular goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev was given a break. The decimated hosts quickly fell behind 1:2, but responded with a 5:0 run.

But after that, the Berliners missed out on many great opportunities and even missed two seven-meter penalties. After around 23 minutes, the French equalized again to make it 9:9. The fact that the Foxes still went into the dressing room with a lead was mainly thanks to some strong saves from goalkeeper Viktor Kireev.

After the break, the hosts rotated a lot because the Bundesliga top game against MT Melsungen is scheduled for Thursday. The flow of the game suffered as a result – especially in attack. But with a lot of effort and a bit of luck, the Bundesliga leaders saved the narrow victory over time.
