A month ago, exactly, Javier Milei He entered Congress, put on the presidential sash and left the premises, without speaking, for the first time in Argentine democratic history. Since then many things have happened, despite the short time. And in numbers it can be seen better.
The growth in commodity prices is dramatic. The kilo of roast increased by 62%, chicken 42%, bread 48%, rice 63%, milk 128%, soft drinks 81%, gasoline 64%, prepaid 40%, transportation 45%, medicines 100%, tolls 50 %, and 20% telecommunications.
That is to name just a few items, although the one that stands out the most is the megadevaluationn announced by the Minister of Economy Luis Caputo: the official dollar rose 123% at the close of this note. “It takes 15 years to see two-thirds of the improvements,” Milei clarified.
This happened while the “Buy without VAT” plan and ANSES credits for retirees were also eliminated, 7,000 state workers were fired (and those who remained were announced that there would be no increases) and the summer season fell by up to 40% in his occupation. Inflation, which the INDEC was calculated by the UMET at 24.3% in December.
The economy was not the only area that brought news. In the legislative field, the Government sent a mega DNU and a bill that is being discussed in committees. Between them they propose to change or repeal 1100 laws. Political life also had its highlights. Not only because of the kiss between Milei and her partner, or the photo of the presidency footto which they went up, but also because of the debate about the move to Quinta de Olivos.
The president complied 28 days living at the Libertado hotelr (whose presidential suite costs about $450 a night) and only moved in on Monday. Who paid for the stay? It is one of the unknowns that remain next to what the newspaper Clarín titled “the crisis of the dogs”: Milei denied with unjustified violence the journalist Silvia Mercado, who had assured that the Conan clones had already moved. So where are the animals? These are doubts that arise over the fact that Conan, in Milei’s “four-legged son”, has really been dead since 2017.
All this happened in just one month.
