Neil Young is going six months after the release of his pretty strong Crazy Horse album barn undaunted by mucking out and opening up his archive. Toast he also made in 2001 with Crazy Horse, in the San Francisco studio of the same name. He eventually found the music ‘too sad’ and dropped the album. Several songs would appear in 2002 on the not very appreciated Are You Passionate? For example, under the title She’s a Healer† Boom Boom Boom with Booker T. & The MGs. But that newer version, it turns out, doesn’t make it to the thirteen minutes after all Toast, which indeed shows a rather minor sounding Young. Strangely enough, all numbers here gain in expressiveness when you put them next to Are You Passionate? lays. Young sounds more soulful with Crazy Horse than with the soul band of organist Booker T. Not really surprising, but when he pulls leather with his Crazy Horse in Standing in the Light of Love then you’re glad that this album is just for sale.
