A fire broke out in a meadow on the Coevorderstraatweg in Geesbrug this afternoon. The fire, in a hump of reeds measuring 100 by 30 meters behind a nursery, caused a lot of smoke.
Several corps were called in to extinguish the fire, including from Emmen, De Krim and Hoogeveen. An excavator from a neighboring company also helped.
Emergency services struggle to get the fire under control. Extinguishing may take all night, says a spokesman for the Drenthe Safety Region.
