A lonely but necessary job: ‘traffic warden’ on the beach

Saturday is Construction Day. The opportunity to take a look behind the gates that normally remain closed to the public. There is a lot of construction going on in Wijk aan Zee. This is where the green electricity comes ashore, which is generated by windmills kilometers away at sea.

You can come and have a look both on the beach where the cables come ashore, and along the Zeestraat where the transformer station is being built. Next Saturday, a mega-working area will be opened that is normally closely guarded.

Erik Bleeker from IJmuiden is one of the traffic controllers on the beach of Wijk aan Zee who is responsible for monitoring the construction site. He talks about his lonely but necessary job.
