Arto Bryggare wraps up Sunday’s events in Germany.
Athletics legend From Arto Bryggare there was a violent roar in the Munich Olympic Stadium when Lassi Etelätalo the spear bronze was secured.
– I didn’t think that a man with lung disease would challenge Lassi, commented Bryggare, who works as an expert for Iltalehti.
He meant the pneumonia that caught during the World Championships in Eugene and unexpectedly recovered for the European Championships Vítězslav Veselýä.
Etelätalo was locked in the bronze with its second round result of 82.93, until the Czech Republic came in fifth with 84.36.
– Lassi thought that Veselý would not repeat Zurich’s trick. Lassi is at his best when he has been cornered.
At the European Championships eight years ago, Veselý spoiled Finland’s triple victory and pushed Etelätalo to fourth place.
Now that didn’t happen. Etelätalo soon caught up with the Czech Republic with 86.44. Veselý did not hesitate to answer this. Bronze to Finland.
– A huge thing for the Finnish javelin thrower. I am really happy Lassin and the coach Leo Pusan on behalf of.
Etelätalo improved the record set eight years ago by one and a half meters.
– He has been healthier than in many years. You have to remember that before the elbow and ankle injuries at the end of the 2010s, he was a hugely talented guy – and that talent has not been lost. An intelligent thrower who doesn’t shine even in value competitions.

Gold went to Germany Julian Weber (87.66) and silver in the Czech Republic Jakub Vadljech (87,28).
It went well, as Bryggare analyzed in advance.
– There were people of two castes in the competition. The best threw an excellent 86-88 meters in almost windless weather, and then there were the others. Weber narrowly stepped over his longest throw. However, I didn’t believe based on the practice that he would be capable of such a throw. The workout was so smooth. Surely he was in pain—as was he Toni Kuusela.
The painful flaxhead was Fifth in the rod final (80.20).
– There was a lot of gunpowder in every throw, but he couldn’t get the spear into position.

Reetta Hurske qualified from the EC final of the top eight, when he was third in his own semi-final with a time of 12.95.
– He ran quite well compared to his form in the last few weeks. He stayed with nine fences and was in the final, but the rest cost a tenth.
Based on the time comparison, the continuation was reached with a result of 12.87. Hurske’s best result of the season is 12.88.
– The kick was not enough for Reeta. Five fences he came very well at the front.
When the wind results of the Kaleva Games in Joensuu are excluded from the calculations, the Tampere’s average result for the season is 13.00.
– A tenth or two should be removed from the basic level so that the EC final is realistic. Annimari Korte or Nooralotta Neziri in their top condition would have continued.

The 10,000 meters of men’s track running was on the program on Christmas Eve.
– It seemed at the beginning that the pace was not charming, but at the end we were going at a reasonable European pace. Citizens of different countries have interesting names, Bryggare lightened up.
The gold was taken by the Ethiopian representing Italy Yemaneberhan Crippa (27:46,13), silver went to a Norwegian Zerei Mezngi with his record (27.46.94) and the bronze went to France Yann Schrub with his record (27:47,13).
After seven years of military service, Mezngi fled his native Eritrea to Norway in 2012. He became a Norwegian citizen in March 2020.
