The mayor of Òrrius, Xavier Masgrau, of Junts per Catalunya, has called a new referendum on the independence of Catalonia for next October 1, according to ‘El Nacional’, which publishes the City Council’s side that reports on the call and which does not appear on the council website.
The consultation will consist of two questions: ‘Do you want Catalonia to be a state in the form of a republic?’ -to which you can answer yes or no- and ‘Do you want to make the declaration of independence proclaimed on October 27, 2017 effective?’ -also with dual response.
The council justifies the consultation because a collection of 139 signatures has been presented from the 730 residents who appear in the municipal census, because “there is the political will to maintain the right to decide of the citizens of Òrrius through a vote on the question of the future of Catalonia and its fit within the current legal framework”.
At the same time, he argues that the citizens of the municipality have exercised “the right to decide” on “numerous occasions” and “want to continue exercising it, just as happened on October 1, 2017.”

The vote is scheduled to be held on October 1, 2023 between nine in the morning and eight in the afternoon, “so that the will of the people can be expressed on this issue of capital importance.” He anticipates that there will be two ballot boxes: one for locals and another for those people from other municipalities.
And he adds that the agreements, taken in a plenary session on August 31, will be notified to the rest of the Maresme town councils to invite them to celebrate “an equivalent democratic exercise” in their municipalities.
