Another 13 members of the criminal groups were injured during the intervention, in which 30 hostages were released.

The Haitian National Police reported this Friday that 9 members of armed gangs died and 13 others were wounded during the eighth day of intense interventions in neighborhoods occupied by these armed groups in Gros Morne, Artibonite department, 130 km from the capital.

“There are 9 dead bandits, at least 13 others were injured and 3 were arrested during the action that allowed the Police free 30 hostages and seize 8 motorcycles,” the institution said in a statement. “This uninterrupted operation is in its eighth day. It will continue until the bandits are completely uprooted,” continues the note from the Haitian Police.

The struggle of armed gangs to control the territory has intensified in the last year, forcing tens of thousands of Haitians to leave their homes in search of safer places.

The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (Binuh) reported last Monday that at least 188 people were killed, 120 injured and 12 others missing between April and May passed due to the war between the armed gangs that are vying for control of the Haitian capital.
