Lukas Hradecky represented Bayer Leverkusen outright knocked out Bayern Munich on Saturday in the battle for the top of the Bundesliga. The final score was 3–0 for Leverkusen.
After 21 games, Leverkusen is five points behind Bayern. The situation is downright irritating for the club, as Leverkusen has finished second in the Bundesliga in the seasons 1996–97, 1998–99, 1999–2000, 2001–02 and 2010–11, but has never celebrated the championship.
With the balance, Leverkusen has received the nickname Neverkuse in English and Vizekusen in German.
On Saturday, Hradecky reset, among other things, Bayern’s star striker Harry Kane and got to shout at the home crowd after the match.
– Xabi Alonso was invited to celebrate with the Northern Guard before the goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky led songs, editor Matt Ford wrote in X.
– I have never heard of Leverkusen like this. For the first time ever, they believe they can do it. They believe they can dethrone Bayern Munich.
