– That this is delicious. Acidity and creaminess in the right ratio take care of that, food supplier Mari Moilanen write Something tasty – in his blog about the cabbage-bacon box.
One of the most affordable ingredients of the fall season is cabbage. But this time Moilanen wanted to make something other than the traditional cabbage box.
A version tuned with bacon, vinegar and cooking cream was born.
Cabbage Bacon Box
(for 4 people)
150 g of bacon
850 g of cabbage
1 onion
3 small garlic cloves
350 g (approx. 7.5 dl) potato strips (frozen)
2 teaspoons of salt
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp chili flakes
75 g of grated cheese
3 dl cooking cream
black pepper
1. Chop the onions. Shred the cabbage. Cut the bacon into small pieces. Grate the cheese.
2. Put the bacons on a hot pan and fry until the bacon releases fat on the pan. Add the onions and fry them in bacon fat. Add the cabbage cut into strips, fry for 4-5 minutes.
3. Add apple cider vinegar to the pan and stir until the vinegar evaporates. Add the potato strips and stir gently for a few minutes. Add the cooking cream and spices and let the ingredients heat up.
4. Pour the mixture into a lightly greased large baking dish. Spread grated cheese on the surface. Bake the cabbage and bacon box for 20 minutes under foil, remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes.
