Pilsner Urquell is a traditional Czech beer brand. PDO

The well-known Czech beer brand Pilsner Urquell is leaving the Olympic Games in Paris next summer, because Russian and Belarusian athletes are about to participate in the Games. The matter was reported by, among other things TV Nova.

The beer brand has been a partner of the Czech Olympic Committee and the Olympic team for years. This year, however, Pilsner Urquell’s name or logo will not be seen in any marketing material related to the Paris Olympics. The beer brand also does not do its own marketing campaign in connection with the Games.

Pilsner Urquell plans to continue supporting Czech athletes.

– We want to celebrate the success of our athletes, but only in events whose values we share, marketing manager Zuzana Dudová said.

The Russians and Belarusians who pass the Olympic limits will have these prospects as neutrals in the sports in Paris. In other words, the emblems, colors and national anthems of Russia and Belarus will not be seen or heard at the games.

The International Olympic Committee also set conditions for participation. Athletes who support the Russian war of aggression or have been part of the Russian or Belarusian army are not allowed to participate in the Games.

The position of the Czech Olympic Committee is that no Russian or Belarusian athletes should enter the Games if the war in Ukraine is ongoing.
