Last year, the winner of the Golden Ball awarded to the best player in the world Karim Benzema has fallen into the teeth of politicians in his home country.
French Minister of the Interior Gérald Darman claimed this week that Benzema has links to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Darman did not provide any evidence to support his claim.
Member of the French Senate Valerie Boyer took a strict stance on the subject and demanded consequences for the attacking star, if the interior minister’s throw can be proved to be true.
According to Boyer, Benzema should at least be stripped of the Ballon d’Or as a symbolic sanction. He also proposes an even tougher solution: the loss of French citizenship.
– An agreement with those who declare war on us would mean betraying one’s own country, Republican politician declared message service in X.
Boyer is referring to the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood has at least previously cooperated with Hamas, which attacked Israel the other week.
The whole deal may have started from one of Benzema’s messages. The man wrote this week that he was praying for the residents of Gaza, who are under Israeli bombardment.
Threat
A football player’s lawyer Hugues Vigier called Darman’s claim fake and denied that Benzema had any connections with the Muslim Brotherhood.
According to Vigier, they are considering filing a lawsuit against the Minister of the Interior.
– It is not acceptable that those in power believe they are entitled to do anything just out of cynicism.
Benzema, 35, moved from Real Madrid to Ittihad of the Saudi Arabian league last summer.
