From Monday July 4th to Thursday July 7th, Paris will host the Fall/Winter 2022-2023 Haute Couture Fashion Week. The French fashion association Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture recently announced that 29 fashion houses will show their collections.
During the four days, 27 physical fashion shows and two physical presentations will take place. Influenced by the two-year health crisis, all houses are planning online broadcasts in addition to the physical fashion shows, which will be shown in the form of live streams, videos or other digital formats.
A first look at the Haute Couture Fashion Week calendar
On Monday July 4th, the fashion house Schiaparelli will open the Haute Couture week with a fashion show. From 2 p.m., selected guests can admire the new haute couture pieces by Maria Grazia Chiuri at the Dior show. On July 5, Chanel has not just one, but two fashion shows on the program at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. From 2 p.m., a film about the fashion show, created under the artistic direction of Virginie Viard, will also be shared online.
After Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia announced his support for the Ukrainian people in March in his AW22 fashion show had made a lasting impression, he could repeat that experience at the haute couture fashion show on July 6 at 12 noon. The designer was born in Georgia and had to flee the war himself as a child. After fleeing, his family lived in Ukraine and Russia before finally arriving in Germany. These painful memories are a reason for the designer’s commitment that he expressed through his fashion show.
Another highly anticipated collection is that of fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier, created by Olivier Rousteing. To Glenn Martens and Chitose Abe, the artistic director of Balmain, is the Parisian label’s third guest.
Cameroonian designer Imane Ayissi, who was elected guest member of the Fédération de la Haute-Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) in January 2020, will present his collection on Thursday 7 July at 10am. Ayissi made history as the first designer from sub-Saharan Africa to be included in the official Haute Couture calendar. He is known for using West African fabrics, which he interprets in a modern way and combines with other materials.
There is also a new brand on the calendar this season: the Spaniard Juana Martin, whose fashion show will take place on July 7th at 4pm. Juana Martin is the first Spanish designer invited to the Paris Haute Couture Week calendar.
The Fall/Winter 2022-2023 Haute Couture Fashion Week runway shows will also be broadcast on the Fédération de la Haute-Couture de la Mode platform.
