The 1983 World Rally Championship season is being made into a movie. The year in question is remembered for the legendary smooth turn of the two rally teams Audi and Lancia.
Audi, which permanently changed the world of rallying with its four-wheel drive cars, took the marque championship a year earlier and the same was expected to happen in 1983. However, the Italian team Lancia, which had previously been defeated, gave the German brand a hard time and took the championship by only two points.
The winner of the drivers’ championship drove in Audi’s team Hannu Mikkola. See you at Lancia Markku Alén and German Walter Röhrl.
IL ARCHIVE
Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia -film is a dramatized overview of the rally season from the point of view of the Lancia team. It will premiere in early January.
Mikkola, who died in 2021, is played by an Italian, according to the IMDB database of movies and TV series Gianmaria Martini. There is no mention of Alén’s performer on IMDB. It could also be that a fictional character has been invented to replace Alén.

At least Alén’s map reader Ilkka Kivimäki is part of the story. To play him Rosario Terranova.
Among others, the main characters of the film will be seen John Wick – in an action movie, played a bad guy Riccardo Scamarcio and the formulaic film known from Rush Daniel Brühl. Brühl’s resume also includes roles in the productions of Marvel, known for its superheroes.
The movie is directed by Stefano Mordini.
At least some Finns will be seen in the very Italian-oriented film. An actor living in Italy I guess Portman plays a “Finnish father” and his daughter a “Finnish child”.
