Russian bettors were the target of a clever scam in India. A fake version of the world’s most lucrative cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL), was made on the Internet, which Russian bettors seized upon.

In Gujarat, unemployed youths and farmers dressed up as cricketers and began playing a staged game streamed live on a YouTube channel with 255 subscribers. Bettors could place their bets via Telegram.

Indian law prohibits betting on sports in the country. The only permitted betting object is horse racing. That is why illegal betting opportunities are organized especially in money making cricket.

The trick was made realistic by the fact that a real-time statistics service was running at the bottom of the broadcast. The game was filmed with many different cameras and speakers were set up on the field, from which the audience’s voice downloaded from the Internet could be heard.

Outside the cameras, there were people with walkie-talkies who directed the game in the desired direction.

Times of India according to the broadcast, there was a commentator who sounded like a real IPL league commentator From Harsha Bhogle. When the man himself read this, he couldn’t help but laugh at his impersonator.

The police arrested four men last week on suspicion of organizing the scam. One of the men had worked in a bar in Russia, which allowed him to get in touch with the bettors who were cheating.

It turned out that the Russians had been tricked for a long time, as at least nine staged games had been carried out. The players who played on the field were paid 400 Indian rupees per match, which means about five euros.

The farmers who were paid to be players have already promised to help the authorities in the investigation. For the police, the discovery was unique.
