A euro, two at most: that costs a hot meal in expensive times in Gasselternijveen

A plate of red cabbage with mashed potatoes and minced meat. Mouth watering, about twenty residents of Gasselternijveen were filling their plates on Wednesday evening. During the winter they can eat weekly in the village hall for one or two euros.

The villagers can stop by for a meal during the months of November to February because – it is thought – people could be short on cash during this time due to inflation and high energy bills. The meal is for everyone who thinks they need it. The initiative comes from the village cooperative De Brug, the Food Bank, the Protestant Municipality GNV and the Meal Supply Foundation.

Registration for meals on Wednesday is possible at the Village counter .
