A dull end to the Young Lions’ gold project: “Heaven and Hell”

Tomi Lämsä did not explain, the Swedish star wondered at the strange game.

For the first time in five years, Finland missed the quarter-finals of the under-20 World Cup tournament. Sweden won the decisive game 3–2.

– We fought all the time. Everyone wanted to win this game, there’s no question about that, Ynänse played in the goal of the Lions Jani Lampinen.

The game was awesome. In the end, Finland’s grip loosened and Sweden was able to score two goals. It was game over.

– First there was a bad rip and the guy was in the right place at the right time. A difficult goal, Lampinen described the equalizer.

– Then the puck bounced on them and there was a drive through. I guess the rest is history, Kiekko-Espoo’s goalkeeper said.

Finland sought gold from Canada. The journey was interrupted. The disappointment was huge.

– It was close. Sometimes I did, Lampinen said.

A quiet booth

Lampinen cheered up the atmosphere in Finland’s booth.

– There was a gang down there, after all. This was the last tournament for many, the last chance to win. It was the same for myself. Many have been involved in this for a long time. Everyone tried yes.

– I am relatively satisfied with my game in this tournament. And that I got to play. But it doesn’t really warm up now.

Warm words

Tomi Lämsa will continue as head coach of the under-20s next season as well.

– It was a tough playoff match, as it should be at a moment like this. A few minutes separated today from life and hell, Lämsä said on TV5.

The coach made a summary despite the big disappointment. Finland improved from the opening series, but not enough.

– Of course this is a disappointment. We didn’t reach the goal we set out to get. This was the first step after the preliminary series, where you had to take the win.

Sweden scored two goals in the last three and a half minutes.

– They got a long end game, and we had a little careless play of the puck, it turned into a rebound to the back corner and straight to the shoulder. In the last one, there was a bounce in front of the change box. I couldn’t see if the puck was under control or not.

– Sometimes this is quite raw.

Poor result

Niko Huuhtanen scored a goal in the quarterfinals, but it didn’t help Finland now. PDO

Lämsä didn’t try to explain the value tournament that ended dully any more.

– The result was not what was sought. This quarter-final was a goal game. We were close, but couldn’t get ahead.

The time for bigger analyzes is later.

The Swedish star as a mother

Two goals scored Leo Carlsson was spinning his head after the game.

– It was a special game, a funny game. Finland played well. I guess we were a little lucky. But this is how it goes sometimes, the Örebro player said.

Oliver Kapanen and NIko Huuhtanen were Finland’s top scorers in the quarterfinals. The Young Lions tournament is over.
