‘A draw would have been fair.’ ACV narrowly loses to leader Saestum

ACV failed to take points from Zeist at record champion Saestum. In a match with little difference, Saestum scored and ACV did not.

Dionne Keizer, captain since the seriously injured Lisa Velthuis had to drop out, looked back disappointed: “A draw would have been justified. The Saestum linesman flagged a lot and unfortunately the referee went along with it. The goal that Saestum scored was offside, but then our linesman was ignored. We really deserved more.”

Lesser phase for ACV

ACV is currently in a somewhat bad phase, because three of the four matches in 2024 have been lost. And the next match is against arch-rival Oranje Nassau. Nevertheless, ACV is still neatly in the middle bracket, which is a lot better than last season, when the Drenthe women struggled to maintain themselves as debutants in the top class.

Vera Lentz claims penalty

After the 1-0 halftime score, ACV started part two with good courage. However, chances remained elusive like bruised undergrowth in a dense forest, let alone goals. ACV was given the necessary free kicks and corners and at one of those moments the young substitute Vera Lentz shot against the arm of a Zeister woman. Referee Louwerse did not reward the moment with a penalty. The strikers Pascalle Pomper, Keizer and Marieke Hup could not get through the close defense.

Saestum has remained the leader of the ACV list due to the win. The club was national champion many times before the women’s premier league was founded. Many international players played at Saestum, the club is still a stronghold in women’s football.

‘Eager to win against ON’

Afterwards, Keizer quickly turned his sights to the next match: “Then the Oranje Nassau will come to visit us. We lost big in Groningen (7-0 -ed.) and so we are eager to win.”
