Hansa Rostock and Hertha BSC played out a goalless draw in the second Bundesliga.
The 0-0, which was one of the better sorts, doesn’t really help either team. For Rostock, coach Alois Schwartz’s team, it was at least a point win in front of 26,500 spectators in the Ostseestadion after three defeats in a row. During the week, Hansa also failed in the second round of the DFB Cup against 1. FC Nürnberg ( 2:3 nV).
Hertha moved into the round of 16 with a 3-0 win against Bundesliga 1 team FSV Mainz 05. Coach Pal Dardai’s team slipped to twelfth place in the table with 16 points, Rostock is in 14th place with 13 points.
First half poor chances
The home team owned the opening quarter of an hour, after which the guests from Berlin got into the game better and, all in all, made a somewhat more mature and dangerous impression in the game facility. The compact Rostock team, on the other hand, repeatedly put pinpricks forward – especially on the left side through Christian Kinsombi. However, there were no great chances for either team.
Hertha hits the post and crossbar
Things got livelier in the second round. Hertha’s Pascal Klemens hit the post of the Rostock goal with a low shot in the 52nd minute. The Berliners then gained a lot of steam, and shortly afterwards Andreas Bouchalakis narrowly missed goalkeeper Markus Kolke with a shot on the move. Hertha were unlucky in the 62nd minute when Fabian Reese’s header hit the crossbar after a corner, and just a little later Jonjoe Kenny was denied by Kolke after a nice pass from Smail Prevljak.
Rostock suddenly becomes stronger
There was hardly any sign of Rostock going forward in this phase of the game. It wasn’t until the 74th minute that there was a sign of life again. Dennis Dressel shot from 16 meters after a nice pass from Nils Froling, but was denied by goalkeeper Tjark Ernst.
Shortly afterwards, Rostock had a huge chance to take the lead. Then Froling played the ball to Juan José Perea, who was suddenly free in front of Ernst, but just as the Joker was about to take the shot, Klemens tipped the ball off his foot at the last moment. In the end, the Berliners survived Rostock’s final offensive and the score remained 0-0.
