The DJ at the home stadium of Premier League side Northampton Town has apologized to the crowd for his choice of song during the match against Portsmouth on December 2nd. Responsible for the music at Northampton matches Matt Facer angered the crowd when he played Wham!’s classic Christmas song Last Christmas during the match event.

The rage stems from the playful Whamageddon challenge that started about 10 years ago. The challenge is to avoid hearing Last Christmas during Christmas. If the participant of the challenge hears the song before Christmas, he is eliminated from the game.

Facer, who played the song to the football audience during the break, knocked several thousand people out of the Whamageddon game with one throw. The audience for the match was 7,215.

– I didn’t know that people take it so seriously, says Facer BBC:for.

“I thought it would be pretty funny to drop 7,000 people who couldn’t avoid it, but obviously it’s not funny.”

Facer says he received messages on the messaging service X (formerly Twitter) giving him feedback on playing Last Christmas.

– Apparently it was quite tame compared to what was said in the stadium.

Facer apologizes to the spectators of the match.

– I apologize to everyone whose Christmas I have ruined.

Facer promises he won’t play the song in the final games before Christmas at Northampton’s home stadium.
