A dead man found in Ullastrell dragged by the Terrassa waterspout

Firefighters have located the corpse of a person inside a vehicle stranded in the Gaià stream, in the area of Cant Font in the municipality of Ullastrell (Vallès Occidental)which yesterday afternoon became a waterspout due to the downpour that fell on Terrassa, some 80 liters per square meter collected in just over an hour, according to the Servei Meteorlògic de Catalunya. Firefighters search the area for the body of a second victim.

The car is a black Mitsubishi Montero that belongs to a 48-year-old resident of Esplugues de Llobregat. He is a married man with a son. One of his friends is the one who has located the car this Wednesday around seven in the evening. “I have come to look here because this morning I found out that he had not returned home and I sensed that he would have entered this area with the car,” the friend who found the vehicle has detailed to EL PERIÓDICO, desperate like the rest of relatives because at 10:00 p.m. they still did not know if the recovered corpse is that of the neighbor or that of the person who is suspected of being able to accompany him when yesterday afternoon early in the afternoon he was swept away by the flood of the stream.

The car is in the center of the stream, a place that can be reached via a forest track in poor condition that descends from Ullastrell. It is damaged by the blows received during the violent dragging of the water. It is also full of herbs. The firefighters have had to use the excarceration tools to be able to rescue one of the bodies from inside the Montero.

Fond of driving on tracks

The friends of the disappeared person, named Jorge, assure that they spoke with him yesterday afternoon and he was in the Vilacavalls variant. He explained that his intention was to go to Sant Andreu de la Barca and they believe that he intended to do so through forest tracks. A mechanic by profession, they describe him as a driver accustomed to driving on difficult terrain and fond of driving through floodplains, an activity that is prohibited in many places. It is not explained, however, why he could have run the risk of entering this place in view of the warning of heavy rains that Civil Protection had released.

He was not a first-timer behind the wheel in these circumstances, nor was he someone who was stepping on this terrain for the first time. That’s also why his friends have come here looking for him when they learned from his wife that he hadn’t spent the night at home. The couple had come this Wednesday at noon to file a complaint about his disappearance, they say. However, the Firefighters were not aware that this loss could be related to the downpour that fell on Terrassa the day before and no rescue device was underway to locate it.

Neither in this area, where the force of the rising water is clearly visible 24 hours later, is there telephone coverage, a factor that prevented Jorge or his companion – if it was confirmed that he was not alone – from sounding the alarm when They were swept away by the torrent of water.
