Manchester City employee’s long-term fraud exposed.

Worked as Manchester City’s business development manager Fiona Barclay has been jailed for 18 months after embezzling more than £100,000 of club funds for his own personal use.
Barclay, 33, had used the money to pay part of his wedding expenses and bought gifts for himself and his family.
No reason
Prosecutor Ellen Shaw told Manchester District Court that Barclay’s actions were discovered by the club’s auditors, who initially drew attention to the £25,000 deposit due to the size of the sum. In the club’s internal interrogation, the woman had apologized for what had happened and admitted that she had made a mistake.
Barclay also admitted during questioning that he had made a £15,000 deposit into his own account and later returned the amount back to the club.
Suspicious money transactions were eventually traced all the way back to 2019, and Barclay was fired from City in March last year.
– There is no rational reason or logic in why he did what he did, defense attorney Patrick Buckley stated.
Pregnant to the castle
After the dismissal, Barclay has had time to find a new job and get pregnant, but now he is waiting for time in prison.
The woman from Falkirk, Scotland is serving half of her 18-month sentence as a first-timer.
