His treatment was paid for by his colleagues through a collective fund
The program ‘El Tiempo de Juego’ on Cadena COPE has been in the news in recent hours for an alleged scam by a program collaborator and friend of Paco González, Guillermo ‘Willy’ Valadés, who would have requested hundreds of thousands of euros pretending to suffer a false terminal cancer whose treatment was paid for by their colleagues through a collective fund that they usually have for emergency situations.
The channel’s sports section had been sharing the antenna with ‘Willy’ for more than 20 years. Last November, he informed his fellow professionals that he had been diagnosed with a metastatic brain tumor in his back, and that his survival options underwent experimental treatment at the Clínica de Navarra.
Saying treatment cost around 10.00 euros per week, so according to El Confidencial, sources from the chain have explained that Paco González, Manolo Lama, Pepe Domingo Castaño and Xuancar Gonzálezthe heavyweights of COPE Sports, went out of their way and agreed to pay for Valadés’ treatment, with whom they have had a close friendship for many years.
The money for the treatment came from a kind of working capital that the section has, fueled by advertising and sponsorships. It is an amount that is available in cases like this and that is distributed at the end of the year as a bonus.
A little later, the bills would have amounted to 16,000 euros per week due to some drugs that were included in the treatment but, a few days ago, the Cope Sports team discovered that no one with the name of Guillemo Valadés was listed as a patient at the Clínica de Navarra.
The journalist then avoided different conversations with the chain until, when the parties were able to contact each other, according to the media, there were different shouts and threats.
His name has already been removed from the presentation of the team in the ‘Game Time’ programs and the protagonists, for now, have not wanted to “say anything” to the media that have asked about it.
