A controversial figure thought to be dead returns to Pihlajakatu

Actor I am Kare33, has made a comeback Secret lives series. Karee’s character Marianna Kurki will be seen again in next week’s episodes.

Marianna’s character left the series in 2017 when she was filmed walking into the water with her mother Raakeli. Among others, Iltalehti reported at the time that the characters had committed double suicide.

However, Kare herself never believed that Marianna was really dead. Now was the right moment for the actor to return.

– The stars were aligned. It was now time for Marianna to return, says Kare in an interview with Iltalehti.

An important theme

Kare believes that the viewers will be surprised by Marianna’s return. Viewers familiar with Marianna’s history may also be suspicious of the character’s intentions.

Marianna’s character was originally seen in Salkkarei between 2013 and 2017. The character suffered from serious mental health problems, and Marianna was seen, among other things, faking a pregnancy, stealing her friend’s identity and murdering her partner’s son.

Kare feels that it is extremely important that mental health problems are discussed in different media.

– It is important to play the role with dignity and respect and to talk about things.

Kare describes that during the break Marianna has grown and changed as a person. Marianna Kurje of 2023 has light and softness.

The character’s change can also be seen in Karee’s work.

– As an actor, it’s really interesting to play a character who has traveled a long way in between. He is a big surprise for the viewers, says Kare.

With Marianna’s help, Kare wants to show that there is always hope.

A warm return

During the six-year break in Salkkarei, people have changed, and Marianna’s close circle is no longer in the series. However, it has been wonderful to return to Karee, because despite the changes in the actors, the rest of the production has largely remained the same.

– I felt really warm when I saw them. There is a good working community here, things work well, Kare is happy.

During her six-year hiatus from Salkkarit, Kare has, among other things, studied for a bachelor’s degree in acting at Copenhagen Theater Academy. Kare wanted to study specifically in English and ended up in Denmark.

Kare was completed in 2020, right around the time when cities were closed due to the pandemic. Originally, the intention was to stay in Copenhagen for a while, but due to the prevailing circumstances, Kare returned to Finland.

In recent years, Kare has been seen among other things Lenita as Airisto in a drama series Smile! as well as the one described last summer, Matti Remsen based on the novel Murder in Hanko – in the crime series. Kare spends a lot of time writing her future productions.

Grandpa’s story

During the exceptional circumstances, Kare also wrote her own monologue performance.

Is there red wine in heaven? premiered in 2022. Kare is the show’s actor, screenwriter, producer and director.

– One of the best lessons at Teatterikorkeakoulu was that we learned to create works ourselves from scratch and present them to the public, says Kare.

The show is especially important to Karee, as it was inspired by Karee’s grandfather, a weightlifter Tauno from Karee.

– I went to see my grandfather and heard an amazing life story, says Kare.

According to Karee, there are incomprehensible stories about grandfather’s life. The evac from Karelia became one of Finland’s best weightlifters.

– He was working in a circus in Paris and slept next to a lion. He was brave.

– Vaarini was a big person, a talented athlete and like Peter Pan, such an adventurer, Kare describes.

Kare is also happy that grandfather had time to see the monologue before his death in 2023.

Grandfather has left one special lesson: c’est la vie (in French that’s how life is).

– Vaari often said that c’est la vie, c’est la vie. Life carries and life is beautiful and valuable, says Kare.

Kare received an acting grant from the Ida Aalberg Foundation for her monologue performance. The show is still touring Finland. The show will also be heard by Helena Plathan cello music.
