Eicca Toppinen of Apocalyptica published Aino-with his sister Vaegar Design jewelry brand at the end of September.
Vaegari is marketed on their website and social media channels as a “high quality, Scandinavian design jewelery brand”.
Readers of Iltalehti have wondered about the similarity of Toppinen’s jewelry brand with the jewelry sold on Chinese websites.
Taobao.com sells, among other things, a bracelet and earrings with many similarities to Vaegar’s jewelry.

Iltalehti caught up with Eicca Toppinen to comment on the uniformity of the jewelry.
– Let’s say that there are a few products in our selection that have a design that looks like it, and there are certainly similar and similar-looking products on sale elsewhere, says Toppinen.
– But almost 95 percent of all our products are designed by us and completely produced by us. In addition, we have taken a couple of products from our supplier into our selections that fit the general look, Toppinen describes.
Toppinen tells Iltalehti that, for example, the Layered Bracelet is such a product. He does not name others.
– And that’s not essential, he adds.
– It is clear that the world is full of all kinds of products and all kinds of versions of products. Similar products can certainly be found in many designs in different places. If you are looking for China, you can find anything in China.
– But yes, the basic starting point is that we have designed most of the products from start to finish ourselves. For example, the Path series, which has been made into many kinds of jewelry. That design has been used in many of our different pieces of jewelry.
The reason for the pricing
On the website of the Vaegar brand, the prices of the jewelry are stated to be 45 euros for the bracelet and 65 euros for the earrings.
You can get similar earrings on the Taobao website for 43 cents and a bracelet for 11 cents.

Toppinen also opened pricing for Iltalehti.
– After all, there can be such differences in what materials and how much silver has been used. All such things affect the price level significantly, Toppinen describes.
According to Toppinen, the pricing of their jewelry is “quite normal.”
– The prices are all calculated according to the production prices and other costs. There is nothing surprising, he continues.
– The material price of silver alone determines the price of the product quite a lot. Silver can be used in very different ways in similar-looking products. Can be silver coating, hollow products or whatever, Toppinen sums up.
