A charging cable from your window to your electric car is allowed in these places

As the owner of an electric car, it can be a solution: charging your car with a cable that comes from your house. This is not allowed everywhere, because it would be unsafe for pedestrians. Yet there are several municipalities in our province where the rules are, or may become, more flexible.

Of course you can always charge your electric car at a charging station in your own driveway or just on the street. If there is no charging station there, you can request one through the municipality. But even easier is of course a cable that you simply push into a socket in your home. If you also have solar panels and the sun is shining, you can charge your car ‘for free’.

Homemade cable duct
But the four major cities are very clear: a cable from your house to your car is not allowed. Not even if you use a cable duct, whether or not you made it yourself, or cover the cable with something.

It would be unsafe for pedestrians who could trip over the cable. Some municipalities also say they will actually issue fines if people do this.

‘Varies per situation’
Yet there are also places that are a bit more flexible. The municipality of Drimmelen is notable, where it is assessed on a case-by-case basis whether the cable poses a danger to others. If not, he can just stay there.

Drimmeling is also the only place where even a loose cable can (sometimes) fit through the bracket. In five other municipalities you can have special paving stones with a slot installed for a fee. The cable disappears there, so that you can no longer trip over it.

Experiments
In addition to these five, there are also four places where experiments are being conducted with the special paving stones. If the trial is a success, it will be possible for all residents to charge from the kitchen window.
