A bus with 50 people overturns in Rubió (Igualada) and leaves 17 injured

A coach with about 50 passengers has overturned this Saturday afternoon while driving on a dirt road near the BV-1037 road, at the height of Rubió (Anoia), when he was going to a farmhouse in the area. The accident has injured 17 people, three of them in serious condition, who have been transferred to the Bellvitge, Vall d’Hebrón and Taulí hospitals. The Generalitat Firefighters have freed four people who had been trapped in the vehicle.

The Generalitat Fire Brigade received notice of the accident at 6:43 p.m. The vehicle he was heading towards a farmhouse, and has lost his balance on a curve in a dirt road. Upon the arrival of the first units, several occupants they had already managed to get out on their own inside the bus, in which there were about fifty people. Four of them have been trapped in the vehicle and have been released by the Bombers two hours later.

There have been no fatalities, but there have been 17 injuries. Three of them, in serious condition, have been transferred to three different hospitals: Bellvitge, Vall d’Hebrón and Taulí. In addition, there are nine injured in less serious condition who have been treated in hospitals in Igualada and Althaia (Manressa). Five more injured, in a minor condition, have also been referred to these two regional hospitals. The Red Creu has moved to the scene to treat the victims psychologically and give them something to eat at the Rubió Castle.

The accident occurred on a secondary road, close to the BV-1037 road in Rubió. The road is not closed, but they have asked the citizens to do not move in the area because the operational bodies are working right now.

In this emergency, 28 ground crews have worked and a Firefighters helicopter is working on the scene, to which are also added 20 crews and three more helicopters from the Medical Emergency Service (SEM). Among the firefighters are the Special Actions Group (GRAE) and the Support Operational Group (GORDO), which is organizing all the logistics to support the service.
