Roosmarijn Knol van Weerplaza has good news for people who have had it with the tropical temperatures lately: it’s going to cool down a bit. Nature can look forward to some rain. But that first rain in a long time can lead to treacherous situations on the road, according to the ANWB.
This Saturday will be sunny and dry. According to Roosmarijn, the temperature in West Brabant will be 27 degrees and about 29 degrees in Eindhoven and the surrounding area. “In the course of the afternoon, the veil clouds will increase somewhat,” she said in the radio program ‘Weekend’ on Omroep Brabant. “Then we get some thin patches of clouds in the sky. The clouds are getting thicker in the evening. The wind will also shift a bit. It is still blowing weakly to moderately from the northwest, but will turn to the southeast on Sunday. Those are the signs for the weather change that will take place on Sunday. With that wind, very warm, moist air is carried.”
“It’s time for rain!”
According to Roosmarijn, Sunday will be tropically warm, with 30 degrees. “Because of the high humidity – which gives a bit of a clammy, sweltering feeling – it will not be surprising that some rain can fall and thunderstorms can form. That is the first time in a long time. There has been almost no rain since mid-May in the province, so it’s time for this!”
This does not have to be annoying after such a damp day, the weather woman emphasizes. “Then it will cool down nicely. We will also notice that on Monday. Then it will only be 26 or 27 degrees in the afternoon. There will also be a fairly high humidity. So it will still feel a bit sweltering. But that temperatures of 30 degrees and more are a thing of the past.”
It will remain mostly dry during the day on Monday. “Most showers fall in the night from Sunday to Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday we get a shower here and there. Especially in the afternoon, spread across Brabant. From Thursday some high pressure areas will come closer again. Then everything will stabilize a bit, the Chance of showers out again and it will warm up a bit again.”
“Be extra alert during the first shower after a long time.”
Due to the rain that is approaching, the ANWB warns road users for treacherous slipperiness. “A lot of rubber and greasy substances have been left behind by traffic on the dry and warm asphalt. When these stuck substances become detached from the asphalt through the rainwater, this can lead to treacherous slipperiness and less grip during the first rain shower after a long dry period.”
That is why the ANWB asks road users – in particular motorcyclists – to be extra alert in the coming days when the road surface is wet and to keep sufficient distance.
