“A bit late, don’t you think?”

A whole group of well-known presenters, including Eva Jinek, Leonie ter Braak and Roos Moggré, have stood up against the terribly nasty WNL boss Bert Huisjes. He misbehaved so badly that he immediately went into inactivity. The place stinks, but luckily Jan Slagter is there to spray some air freshener in a talk show.

‘Thirteen years!’

Jan is friends with Bert and has not spoken out about the issue so far. “No, I was on holiday for a week, so when he stepped down I was in Spain. I also did it a bit consciously,” he says in the talk show Renze on Sunday. “I have spoken to Bert in recent days, even before that and had some contact this morning.”

He continues: “What struck me – and I do not detract from the journalistic choices of the AD that they wrote this article – is that the star presenters, so to speak, who have done their word… It is eleven , twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago.”

A bit late

It’s all a bit late, Jan sneers. “If you do that for the safe working environment of the young generation, then I think: why didn’t you say that eleven, twelve or thirteen years ago? I have also spoken to them one-on-one and they also said: ‘Yes, I owe a lot to Bert Huisjes’, but that he has made mistakes: undoubtedly.”

“I once said to him a year ago: ‘Bert, please, take someone next to you, because you are doing too much. You are secretary, director, editor-in-chief. You can’t make it.’ But yes, it all happened and I really hope that the investigation also comes up with a solution for what needs to change at WNL.”

‘Talk about Eva’

Fellow table guest Angela de Jong believes that Jan is telling half the truth. “Nikki Herr was in it too, right? That wasn’t thirteen years ago.”

Jan: “No, that’s true, but I’m talking about Eva.”

Angela: “There are also plenty of people who work there now. The Van Rijn report also covered the past year. Sometimes it just takes effort and time before you dare to tell your story openly.”

Downplaying

Table guest Georgina Verbaan is annoyed by Jan’s attitude. “No matter how you say: ‘Let’s call them star presenters, they have done their thing.’ There is a certain kind of attitude.”

The MAX bobo: “I didn’t mean that to be annoying, absolutely not, on the contrary. I also don’t explain what happened. I know perfectly well what happened and I have often said it to him, like: ‘Bert, this cannot be happening like this.’”

Full of praise

Jan is a bit disappointed that, according to him, types like Eva speak with two tongues. “I have also heard those people speak, one-on-one, full of praise for Bert Huisjes, saying: ‘I owe him a lot.’”

Angela: “That can coexist, right? I also think Mart Smeets is a very good presenter, but I also think he’s a dick.”
