According to information from NDR MV, second division soccer team Hansa Rostock has separated from its coach Alois Schwartz. The 56-year-old should therefore no longer lead training on Wednesday.
On Friday (6.30 p.m. in the NDR Livecenter) the Hanseatic League will meet SC Paderborn. Junior sports director Uwe Speidel will be on the sidelines there.
“This point in time is very unusual,” said Hansa expert Jan Didjurgeit in an MV Live on Wednesday morning. There were no tensions between Schwartz and the leadership circle.
The main factor for the dismissal was the negative sporting development, said Didjurgeit. Schwartz had already been questioned before the game against Hertha BSC. At that time, however, the Mecklenburgers scored a point and then won in Magdeburg, which initially defused the situation. The 2-0 defeat against Schalke 04 sealed Schwartz’s fate.
Schwartz saved Hansa last season
Schwartz only came to Hansa at the end of March 2023. After staying in the league in the previous season, there has been no success in the current season. In the last three games, the Mecklenburg team only got one point. Rostock had recently lost 2-0 against FC Schalke 04 and had slipped into the relegation zone.
Maaßen and Schuster are considered successor candidates
Enrico Maaßen and Dirk Schuster are considered successor candidates for the dismissed Schwartz. The 39-year-old Maaßen, who was born in Wismar, played for Hansa’s second team in the 2005/2006 season and most recently coached the Bundesliga club FC Augsburg. The 55-year-old shoemaker was recently released from 1. FC Kaiserlautern and previously also worked for SV Darmstadt and FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga.
