The most evident novelty of the work of the engraver Antonio Vecchio is the shape of the coin, which is rectangular. And thanks to this peculiarity, on the obverse it was possible to masterfully reproduce a net and a ball, which accompany the words “Italian Republic” and “Italy world champion”, in addition to the 1982 year of grace. the site of the Mint, “represents a moment of joy and national pride”. And the many celebrations of the fortieth anniversary, in particular those of historic matches such as the 3-2 against Brazil, only confirm how important that world championship was in the collective imagination.
