A 68 year old man and of Belgian nationality, he drowned this Friday while bathing on the beach of Les Muscleres de l’Escala (Girona).
As reported by Civil Protection of the Generalitat, the notification of the event to the 112 emergency telephone number was received at 5:58 p.m. by a witness who reported that a man was drowning in the water and that he seemed unconscious.
The lifeguards on the beach have pulled him out of the water and practiced resuscitation maneuvers until the arrival of the troops of the Medical Emergency System (SEM), who have moved a ground unit and a medical helicopter to the scene, although all efforts to save his life have been unsuccessful.
The beach had surveillance service and at the time of the event the green flag waved.

Agents of the Local Police and the Civil Guard have also traveled to the scene of the event, who have taken charge of the proceedings.
With this new victim they are already ten people who have drowned on Catalan beaches this summer.
