A 25-year-old Emmenaar has to go to prison for almost 11 months for attempted aggravated assault on three officers who wanted to arrest him on different days.
The first time, in November 2021, he tried to escape on his scooter from a motorcycle officer who wanted to check his driver’s license. Because he didn’t have that. He told the officer he wanted to pull over in a safer place across the road. He then tried to knock over the motorcycle officer with his scooter. Because he himself fell with his scooter and broke his foot, he could not escape.
Fingers in car door
He is also being punished for an incident in March last year. Then the man wanted to escape from the police in a car. Again because officers wanted to check his driver’s license.
First he reversed towards the first officer with the door open. When he was handcuffed, he slammed the door. The officer’s fingers were still caught in the door. The man then managed to escape with the handcuffs still on.
The car turned out to be in his girlfriend’s name. The man himself denies that it was he who was in the car during the incident.
Tearing across lawns with sunbathing people
The third incident occurred in August 2022. Officers recognized the man in a car that had escaped an earlier check. The man tore off again and, according to the officer, drove ‘like a mad fool’ through Emmen.
He drove on cycle paths and lawns at the Grote Rietplas in Emmen, where people were sunbathing, and tried to push the police car off the road. The police stopped the chase because it was too dangerous. A few days later he was arrested in the center of Emmen.
In addition to the 11 months in prison he has to serve, the man has 9 months suspended prison sentence if he commits another offense within three years.
