A young Spaniard of 21 years has suffered this Saturday afternoon a possible spinal cord injury after diving headfirst into a shallow pool in Alcudia (Majorca). The victim presented mobility problems in the legs. This is the second accident of similar characteristics of a tourist that occurred in 15 days in Mallorca.

The incident occurred shortly before six in the afternoon this Saturday at the Minerva de Alcúdia apartments, located on Pere Mas i Reus avenue. Apparently the young man was with a group of friends when he decided to jump headfirst into the pool in a just a meter deep. The strong impact against the bottom has caused a gap in the head. At that time he could not move his legs.

After notifying the emergency services, a rapid intervention vehicle and an Ib-salut ambulance have come to the scene. The victim had a bleeding gap in the head and mobility problems in the legs compatible with a possible spinal cord injury.

The doctors have activated the polytrauma code before their transfer to Son Espases. In this way, they expedited care as soon as they entered the hospital.

Agents from the Civil Guard and the Alcúdia Local Police have also gone to the place where the accident occurred. The members of the armed institute have opened an investigation to try to clarify what happened.

There is the circumstance of just 15 days there was a similar incident in Magaluf. On that occasion, the victim was a 19-year-old Norwegian who hit the bottom and suffered a cervical fracture in a pool barely half a meter deep at the Ocean Beach Club. The young man was also transferred to Son Espases.
