The last World Cup will take place in Planica this weekend. But the sporty takes a back seat.
This is surprising: Before the World Cup final in Planica, the Polish Ski Association announced the separation of coach Thomas Thurnbichler. The Austrian took over the team for the 2022/23 season and will now coach the Poles in Slovenia. This announced association president and ex-ski jumping star Adam Małysz in the team hotel.
Thurnbichler emphasized that he “felt that I didn’t want to and can’t go on like this”. He had therefore been in contact with the association “for several weeks”. Suggestions on his part also liked to work in terms of changes in the way of working had not been accepted. So there was a separation.
“But I’m fine with this decision,” said Thurnbichler. However, the decision was not easy for the decision. Therefore, Thurnbichler was offered to train the junior team and thus lead young talents to the top of the world. The coach: “This is a good offer, I will think about it in the next few weeks.”
Who takes on his task now? His successor has already been determined: It is an assistant coach Maciej Maciusiak. The 42-year-old has never been the responsible coach in the World Cup at the top of a team. Thurnbichler still thinks a lot of his successor: “He is the only one to be able to deal with this situation and the pressure.”
