The French sporting goods dealer Decathlon appoints Javier López to Chief Executive Officer.
Together with the CEO Julien Leclercq, the new DECATHLON boss forms the group’s new leadership, Decathlon said on Thursday. With the appointment, the company, founded in 1976, wants to initiate a new phase in its history. This aims to strengthen competitiveness and growth.
López succeeds Barbara Martin Coppola in his new role, who has held the management since 2022. Leclercq, son of the founder of the Leclercq, has been active in his new task since the beginning of March.
“Since Decathlon enters a new phase of its history, I have full confidence in Javier and his talent to bring people together to promote our ambitions and identify new levers for sustainable growth, while we further strengthen our unique human and integrative culture,” says Julien Leclercq.
New boss comes from our own ranks
López comes from his own ranks and has been active for the sports dealer for 26 years. During this time he held various positions in the areas of digital, logistics and retail.
He was head of Decathlon Germany from 2012 to 2015 and then moved to Spain, where he took over the CEO post. In 2022 he took on the role of Global Chief Value Chain Officer in the group.
