At the end of Pasi Ikonen, a tumor was found in 2017, by chance, in the post -jogging description, says in the new book Storm orienteering (Big Dipper).
Ikonen was cut in May of the same year at Turku University Central Hospital.
– The surgery was successful and the tumor was significantly reduced, biography Marko Kantomaa write.
– The pathologist found the tumor benign, and chemotherapy was working.
A few years later, Ikonen got bad news.
– The tumor had begun to expand again, says Kantomaa.
– For four years, everything had gone well. The tumor had been enclosed and had not been symptomatic.
Ikonen was cut for the second and third time. After the third surgery, he was informed that the tumor had become more aggressive.
The medication was no longer effective.
Storm orienteering According to Ikonen on July 6, 2023, Ikonen made a note: “The crushed news I had been able to prepare for. Still, quite a bit of a mind while running home. But let’s try the course once more because there are no other options.”
Ikonen died just over a year later, on August 3, 2024. He was 44 years old.
