The performance of Claude at the Eurovision Song Contest must yield the NPO hundreds of thousands of euros extra in advertising money. “They are going to interrupt the song festival for the first time.”

For the first time in history, the NPO will broadcast an advertising break this year during the Eurovision Song Contest. The hope is that the performance of Claude will draw so many viewers that this really yields the public broadcaster extra tons. But what about: public programs should not be interrupted at all?

Remarkable

Luuk Ikink, the presenter of RTL Boulevard, thinks it’s crazy. “I think it’s remarkable, Rob, because they have never done that before. Avrotros says to us:” Yes, it was always allowed, “but apparently they never did it. Is that just like that?” He wonders In the show section.

TV connoisseur Rob Goossens then: “Yes, it is allowed, I once sorted it out once, because once during those looking for programs they suddenly had an advertising block in the final. I thought: well, I think this is not entirely in line with the rules, but because it is seen as two different broadcasts, it is allowed.”

“It’s allowed”

Frank Volmer, director of De Ster, says in De Telegraaf That it is allowed, but never chosen. “In football matches, the peace is used to broadcast commercials. The first and second half of a football match are seen as separate broadcasts.”

He continues: “The Eurovision Songfestival is now also seen as two programs. According to the NPO, there is now room between the participating songs and the scoreboard to use advertising blocks. The NPO determines that. As a star we sell advertising time in the times defined by the NPO.”

Good consultation

The NPO says that it is in principle up to the broadcaster AVROTROS to determine this. “This went in close consultation with De Ster and with us and happens at a time in the show where more participating countries broadcasts. This generates extra income.”

That is strange to Rob: “Avrotros says that in this way they are going to rake extra money in, which I find very crazy, because the star income that is about, they are going to the government. They are actually making money for the Minister of Finance.”

How much money?

How much extra income is it? Tina Nijkamp knows that again. She says to her analysis canal: “The block in the first semifinal with Claude takes place after all performances at 11 p.m.

The extra advertising block in the second semifinal must yield around 163,500 euros and that in the final 327,000 euros. “Added to this is around 777,000 euros in total compared to last year,” said Tina.

Very nice. Have they also earned Eva Jinek and her expensive studio back.
