A musical reunion that many fans no longer thought possible. Lindsey Buckingham has been back in the recording studio with Mick Fleetwood in the recording studio for the first time since his release from Fleetwood Mac. The two musicians seem to have left old differences behind. And now work on new music again. An event that bears both emotional and historical importance.
Although Buckingham and Fleetwood kept friendly contact even after the break with the band-for example in their joint appearance at the “Jam for Janie” event in February in Hollywood-this is their first joint studio project since the album “Lindsey Buckingham McVie” from 2017. Stevie Nicks.
The Swedish producer Carl Falk, known for his work with Imadonna, One Direction, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato, is currently leading the production of Mick Fleetwood’s new solo album. According to Falk, the mood in the studio was magical.
Playing the guitar and contributing singing
“A surreal moment to sit in the studio with Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood to play the album,” writes Falk on Threads. “His real pleasure that Mick can finally realize his own album was touching. And then he immediately offered to play guitar and contribute singing. I can’t wait to complete this project.”
Falk also released several studies in which Buckingham and Fleetwood can be seen together. Another picture shows Fleetwood with Adam Granduciel, front man of the band The War on Drugs. Falk wrote under a photo of Buckingham: “Mick and Lindsey reunite – what a flawless guitarist!”
This collaboration comes at an exciting time. Fleetwood recently published the “Blues Experience” (2024) project, which he recorded together with the ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro. His last solo album was almost two decades behind (Something Big, 2004). Fleetwood Mac has not performed together since the 2019 tour. At that time with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn as a replacement for the eliminated Buckingham.
A complete Fleetwood Mac-Runion is still unlikely. After Christine Mcvie’s death in 2022, Stevie Nicks made it clear that she no longer wanted to work with Lindsey Buckingham. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said: “I gave Lindsey more than 300 million chances. At some point it is just over.” Mick Fleetwood is still hopeful. At the “Janie’s Fund” event in February, he said: “I always have the imagination that Stevie and Lindsey will reconcile each other again and say: ‘Everything is fine.'”
