A good three months ago, more and more gymnasts and former athletes accused. There have already been the first consequences – now more will follow.

At the end of last year, more and more gymnasts and also former athletes such as Tabea accused Alt allegations against the German Gymnastics Association. Now there are new developments: The Stuttgart public prosecutor has confirmed that several objects have been searched. According to the authority, emergency services from the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office were active in order to advance the investigation at the federal base in Mannheim.

The public prosecutor also announced that an investigation against two trainers was initiated. It is about a suspected attempt at the dangerous bodily harm, which, according to information from the German Press Agency, is said to have occurred in November 2016.

In connection with the allegations, the young national coach Claudia Schunk had recently been released. The German Turner-Bund said Schunk would not lead any courses and competitions for four weeks. At the end of January, Schunk had told the SWR to work that the health of the gymnasts was always the top priority – in relation to all training circumstances.

Schunk worked at the base in Mannheim for ten years. This was also the focus of the allegations, such as the Kunst-Turn-Forum in Stuttgart. The DTB recently emphasized in a statement in relation to Schunk that “with this exemption was in no way anticipated the result of ongoing clarification”. The public prosecutor also stated that the investigation was still ongoing.
