GGD West-Brabant blunders with booster: 247 people received too little vaccine

The GGD West Brabant made a mistake when administering the second booster shot. As a result, a total of 247 people received too little vaccine. All those involved have now been approached by the GGD to make an appointment for a new injection.

All concerned people were invited to the screening location Breda International Airport in Bosschenhoofd on Friday 4 March.

Due to the combination of certain needles with syringes, a small amount of vaccine remained in the syringe during the injection. So too little liquid was injected. In all cases it concerned the Moderna vaccine.

Consultation with RIVM
The GGD discovered the error on Friday during a standard check. It is not known how the mistake could have happened, according to a spokesperson. After consultation with the RIVM, it was decided to offer people a new vaccination. According to the GGD, the extra jab has no consequences for their health.

“Due to the mistake, 0.15 milliliters was administered. That should be 0.25 milliliters. The maximum dose is 0.5 milliliters. There is therefore a large safe margin,” explains Linda Vlamings of the GGD West Brabant.

Excuses
The GGD regrets the mistake. “We find it very annoying and have apologized to the people involved.” A large number of those involved have now had another shot or made a new vaccination appointment.

According to the spokesperson, such an error has never happened before in Brabant. At the end of last year, the same problem arose among visitors to a vaccination location of the GGD Gelderland-South. The GGD West Brabant has meanwhile taken measures to prevent a recurrence.
