Julian Schmid saved third place at the World Cup of Nordic combiners in Lahti, Finnish. The victory went to the Austrian Johannes Lamparter. German athletes also landed in places four to six.

The competition was already under special signs, because because of the difficult wind conditions, the jury had decided on Friday morning to cancel the jumping. This rated Thursday’s provisional jumping jump, which Schmid had best managed – the German therefore went into the race as the leaders.

Lamparter pulls irresistible of that

But the eight seconds on Johannes Lamparter from Austria were quickly used up, the first three kilometers completed the two athletes together, with lamp partners already doing significantly more leadership work. At kilometer 3.6, however, the third of the World Cup ranking attracted so irresistible that Schmid had to be completely torn down and only had an eye on the athletes – especially the Finn Ilkka Herola.

Schmid couldn’t keep that in the end, but at least he no longer gave the podium out of his hand. At the finish line, Lamparter finally had 27.4 seconds ahead of Herola, Schmid came in third with 41.6 seconds.

Violin with Sensation run From 28 to 4

Behind this trio we continued in black and red gold-thanks to an outstanding run by Vinzenz Geiger. From 28th place after jumping, the World Cup leader was still in fourth place (+52.1), followed by Wendelin Thannheimer (+54.9) and Terence Weber (+59.2).

Geiger, who has already been winning as a World Cup winner, then said at the ARD microphone: “I hadn’t thought fourth place anymore, unfortunately I didn’t make a good jump yesterday. But you can see that I am really in a good physical in a good mood, then I just made room for space.”
